About Promptly Written

Hi! Lori Carlson here. I want to welcome you to Promptly Written.

Promptly Written was inspired by the idea of writing poetry, short fiction, and doing challenges via prompts. It was one of those late night brain farts were the title just popped into my head in between sips of Coke Royale and puffs of cheap menthol cigarettes back in 2013, I believe. I was actually surprised that no one else was using it! Since that aha! moment, I have had a lot of fun using prompts to inspire my work. I hope you will browse around my categories and find some writings worth reading.

  1. Hey Lori how have you been? I finally got my sleep under control switching from klonopin to ativan and increased dosage. Been a hell of a summer.

  2. Hey Lori how have you been? I am back to writing my short stories. I have been lifting again and walking trying to keep my sugars good. I think my balance will never be perfect but if I am at 150 or 160 I think thats fine. Look forward to writing more stories now that I have came off my little vacation from writing.

  3. Hey Lori how have you been lately?

    • Hey Dan, I am doing ok..had a bit of dark moment last week, but better now…
I was just thinking about you this morning.. how are you doing?

      • Glad you are better now. I wrote a bunch of stories dedicated to a new wrestler friend I made on twitter. She’s real nice. My medication is at the best level it can be at if he increases the dose the blood sugars spike and my diabetes worsen. I have to manage on this dose. My symptoms have been mild to up. Sleep is better. Watching The Scream tv series.

  4. Hey Lori how are you? Last 2 nights I got good sleep. I created a new workout I do in my basement to bring blood sugars down. I had to take it easy last night I was working out too hard. It helped me sleep. I am going to see The Celtics game tom and my friend will be there. Going with my sister the experience will be unreal Boston fans are crazy.

    • Hey Dan šŸ™‚ I am doing a bit better. Not as mournful as I’ve been the past two days.
That’s great that you’ve found a good workout and you got some good sleep.
Enjoy the game hun! Just stay out of the Boston streets after šŸ˜‰
Have a blessed weekend, my friend.

  5. Hey Lori how are you doing? I am still barely hanging on and will likely need to make that med increase with sleep troubles. I am working hard on my diabetes i am doing the best i can which i think will produce results

    • Hello dear friend! I am so sorry things haven’t improved. When do you go to the doc again? As for me.. if the allergy monster would go away, I would be great *laughs* take care, Dan šŸ™‚

      • I see him in May. I call Monday get the Geodon increase over the phone. Sorry to hear you are unwell hope you feel better soon!

  6. Hey Lori how have you been? I am having major trouble with sleep. I have to see my pdoc as soon as possible to increase meds or find another non weight gaining med.

    • Hey Dan.. I am stressing.. too much to do and never enough time to do it. Sorry to hear you aren’t sleeping. I hope the doc can get you something that will work. Have you ever taken Trazadone or Elavil? Neither of them cause weight gain and could help with sleep.. I know they both knock me flat

      • Trazadone I am on up to 300mg not working. Sorry to hear you are stressing try to calm down and take it easy. Stress is bad for us and I know I am letting it get the best of me currently. I have made plans to see the dr tom so that will be good and I think we will make the necessary changes.

      • Oh dear… have you tried Seraquel? It used to knock me out for up to 24 hrs on only 50 mgs. I don’t think it causes weight gain. Thanks hun.. I am trying to calm down. I hope the doc finds something that works for you.

      • thats a weight gainer worsen my diabetes and i am under the gun to improve my diabetes. thanks i am open to trying seraquel if it has to be. but the problem is if i gain weight my diabetes nurse and dr try to force me into doing this stressful needle treatment. my dad has to come in to make it clear to them we aren’t doing that treatment. my dr and nurse are very shady this treatment they are eager for me to do comes plain across an a scheme with the drug companies for them to get big kickbacks and not care for my health.

  7. Hey Lori how r u today?

    • Hey Dan… I am so so. Allergies.. how are you hun?

      • Sorry to hear feel better. Things are going great with my new book. Sometimes writing about the past might not be the best but I have only had good things come out of it and I remember the good times. Time travel is pretty cool. I wrote 2 songs too for Rita for the book too.

      • Thanks, Dan šŸ™‚ That’s awesome! I’ve got some free time today (for a change lol ) and I am about to hop over to your blog and do some reading.

      • Your welcome. Lori I had a beautiful experience you must read ‘AnnMarie In Love’ I wrote it today and it was one of the most beautiful stories I ever wrote. I would love your feedback. It’s very touching and moving. My friend Rita B plays my mother and AnnMarie is the main character opposite me. I wrote it for AnnMarie I told her and I hope she reads it and likes it. I shed a lot of tears while writing it and long after it.

      • I will definitely read it tomorrow, Dan.. or I should say later today.. exhausted now and headed to bed. I will let you know what I think.

      • Thanks Lori sweet dreams!

  8. Hey Lori how was your week?

    • Hey Dan… well, an interesting one. We had a windstorm here Friday afternoon which caused our neighbor-across-the-alley’s tree to fall on our Lumos line.. no internet, no landline phones, and no cable for the entire weekend! I did get a bit of writing done though since I still had my laptop šŸ˜€ yay! How was your weekend?

      • Oh what a nightmare glad you are okay and back. You were missed, great started a new book 22pgs through in 2 days. It’s about me traveling back in time to try to change some events during one of the happiest periods of my life. I change things like alerting a guy who dies in a drunk driving accident four years later than current time then i go out with rita just to see how that would go. i get real sick with depression and go into the hospital just when things were looking up for me its a real up and down rollercoaster ride.

      • Thank you, Dan šŸ™‚ nice to be missed

Wow, what a trip you are taking! It’s good though to go back and do the “what if” but to actually write about it must be difficult. I look forward to reading it šŸ™‚

      • Yea it was fun yesterday but I got depressed big time when I wrote it today so I added it into the book expressing myself and it adds to things being more realistic that Bipolar can’t be changed in time traveling. The weather change gets me real sick so its a great story of up and down. I like seeing the Rita story play out. It’s easy to write with so many friends in eighth grade and with a good memory I can relive the good times.

  9. Hey Lori how are you today?

    • Better than the last few.. but still only operating at about 50%.. how are you doing hun?

      • Glad to hear you are getting better. Great almost wrote a whole book yesterday. It was a Western like ‘The Hateful Eight’ but completely different storylines with all female characters except one. It’s my first Western . fist pump. I called it ‘The Rita Bfull Eight’ and I know Rita will love it she plays a real bad ass bounty hunter in this one. It has been a fun book to write and I am about done with now just writing the ending scenes.

      • That’s awesome Dan šŸ™‚ I hope Rita enjoys it šŸ™‚ Sounds like lots of fun šŸ˜€ I am still working on my Mystery serial over on A Whispered Wind… finished part 15 today, the turning point in the story šŸ˜€ I am definitely hoping that I am on the mends.. I am so far behind in reading everyone’s posts šŸ˜¦

      • Don’t worry you are half way there. I remember how happy Rita was when I told her about wordpress and how I put her stories up there so all her friends could read them. Glad you are in a fun part of your book. Some books are just too much fun but I love to write as many projects as I can. You will catch up just take care of yourself first.

      • Thank you, Dan.. I plan on stopping by today for a long read šŸ™‚ I am feeling much better today

      • Glad you are feeling better today. Ok great can’t wait for more reactions to ‘Freddy vs Jason 2’ fan fic.

      • I was willing last night, but my wifi wasn’t.. it went down and stayed down last night until the wee hours this morning. Thankfully I had scheduled some posts ahead of time. I will be there tonight if no problems arise again with the wifi

      • No problem great news I finished my new book ‘The Rita Bfull Eight’ released it today and wrote Rita B telling her. I heard from my friend AnnMarie too who has been busy it was great hearing from her. Awesome Saint Patrick’s Day.

      • That is wonderful news Dan (the book and hearing from the friend!) So glad things are looking up for you šŸ™‚ And luck 0′ the Irish to ya! (I am Irish, btw šŸ˜€ )

      • Thanks I also wrote my blog friend Caitlin a song as a St Paddy’s Day gift proves not all Irish get smashed today some also nice thoughtful things. I hope Caitlin likes it. The downside of writing for someone you never know their reaction but how many songs do you get written for you in a lifetime.

      • That was so sweet of you, Dan.. yeah, I would be hard-pressed to turn down or dislike such a gift šŸ˜€

      • Well she maybe just shy or busy. Either way I don’t know so I will just go with the positive she loved it so much she is at a loss for words. I am writing my 900th story right now naming it after her and dedicating it to her. If she doesn’t like it I still did a nice thing. I noticed she read a Rita B story where she had a small part and was mentioned.

      • Oh I am sure she will love the new one too hun.. and congrats on the 900th šŸ™‚

      • Thanks Lori I heard from my friend AnnMarie again. I told her about my 900th story. She was very happy for me. I celebrated with some awesome chocolate milk. Tasted so good.

  10. Hey Lori how are you feeling today?

    • Not well, Dan.. I am about to try to get some sleep.. thanks for checking up on me.. how are you doing? Did your blood sugar come down? Will be stopping by again soon hun. šŸ™‚

      • Sorry to hear Lori. Hope you feel better soon. I am trying to stop stressing over my blood sugars. Yea it went down I got 2 good sugar numbers after the walk. I wrote a new song. It was great.

      • Awesome, Dan.. I am glad to hear your bs came down and you are writing šŸ™‚ I hope to recover soon too šŸ™‚

      • Thanks Lori I got out this morning on a walk great way to start out your day. Help control those bs’s saw bunnies on my walk.

      • My pleasure, Dan.. it is a good way to start the day šŸ™‚ and how adorable… bunnies while out walking šŸ™‚ beautiful!

      • Have you ever watched Dario Argento’s movies? I saw Suspiria and Opera they were real good

      • No, I haven’t, but I have some of them on my wishlist.. when, if, I ever get around to buying them

      • Opera, Suspira two great ones I saw recently I loved them.

  11. Hi Lori, I am Annette and it is a pleasure to meet you. I am going to the site you suggested to get to know you better but I will also be back here. 12. Hi Lori how are you feeling today? My nose is sore again may take a few more days to heal up but I got plenty of ointment to use.

    • Eh, not so well today, Dan.. still a bit under the weather and I think it is beginning to muck up my writing.. my mystery is suffering I fear šŸ˜¦
sorry your nose is still hurting.. hope it heals up soon!

      • Very sorry to hear you are feeling worse. I hope you feel better real soon. Yea I will just keep using the ointment and humidifier. I wrote a new short story today ‘Gods and Rita B’s’ it was good. I love writing for Rita. I know she loves being written about so much and that makes me happy.

      • Thanks… I should be okay in a few days.
That’s great, Dan.. I will eventually catch up with your other writings.. promise šŸ˜€

      • Welcome good to know. Thanks you just to focus on getting well! Feel better!

      • Thanks, Dan

  13. Hi Lori how are you feeling today?

  14. Sup Lori I feel better today. I was surprised i didn’t get a nosebleed the ointment and humidifier must be working, What are some of your favorite horror movies? I got 5 Argento movies for my birthday next month. I love horror marathons on my birthday. Opera, Deep Red, Bird with crystal plummage, inferno, and Suspira. I tried to get price, lee and cushing films but only their weak films were left I got all their best stuff and more. i wanted a price lee movie but reviews said it was slow and not good. i think i will like the argento films.

    • Glad to hear you are feeling better, Dan. I am still struggling with sleep. I like the old movies with Price, Cushing and Lee, but I enjoyed the movie Cabin in the Woods and The House of the Devil.. rented both of them on Netflix last year. I’ve seen all of the Freddy, Jason and Meyer movies too. However, I mostly read horror than watch it. I do like psychological thrillers and ghostly type movies. I wouldn’t mind seeing Argento’s Inferno and Dracula movies though.

      • Thanks Lori I am right there with you its so cold in my room I can’t til 530am. Maybe you should talk to your dr about medication to help. I have all the old great ones with lee, cushing and price. careful years of collection.

      • Naw, I try to stay away from medication these days.. affects my ability to write. That’s great that you’ve collected those three. I had a few of Cushing’s and Lee’s but had to leave them behind in OK when I moved back to VA. Might get the ex to send them to me šŸ˜€

      • Okay whatever works best for you. How was your day? I wrote 6 chapters of the ‘Halloween’ fan fic book. I am really starting to separate it from Carpenter version. Some new characters getting larger roles. I hope the ex sends them back love lee and cushing.

      • I spent a huge chunk of my day in bed. Not sure if I have a cold again or just a bad allergy flare-up. Since then, I’ve written some on my Mystery story and am scheduling some things for tomorrow because I am thinking about taking the day off.
That’s great that you are getting into more characters in your fan fic. I look forward to reading those too.
I will email him tomorrow about them. He will probably send them. We have a good relationships even though we can’t stand to be married to one another *laughs*

      • sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well. i hope u feel better soon. yea take the day off u need rest. well good you get along though. yea get those awesome movies back. i got a little blood in my nose but no nosebleed. i am happy i just wrote on even though i had the nosebleed problem. it was a great distraction and i really enjoyed myself. i put my friend pratt into the story as the sheriff in halloween the two of us can be lumped in one category as talented he is great actor/comedian and i write great stories. we have fun in what we do. so its cool to have him in it. i feel i can do a lot with his character and make him multidimensional.

      • Thanks, Dan.. I just hate getting sick while doing major projects. I feel my work suffers some and isn’t as interesting as it could be if I were well. But I am not going to stop writing the project, I will just be late a bit getting it put up due to cold medicine-induced sleeps. *laughs*
I am going to try to get over to your blog before I go back to bed and read some more of your horror story.
That’s cool that you’ve put your friend into the story. Does he know yet? Have a good morning/evening or what have you.. lol

      • Yea Pratt he told me its an honor. Your welcome I hate getting sick too and usually write when sick. Thanks I hope you enjoy the horror book Halloween fan fic is going real good so far. I am having fun and it creates a lot of excitement.

      • I am so glad your friend is happy about being in your story šŸ™‚ Headed your way now šŸ˜€

  15. Hey Lori how have you been? I got some problems with nosebleeds I was throwing up big chunks of blood clots. He gave me ointment for my nose and I bought a humidifier. So far so good. I didn’t eat well today. My blood sugar was high all day and I slept all day. It was a bummer but I am going to rest and relax until nosebleeds pass. Hopefully in 5 days I can get back to writing. It’s hard to keep your sugar down when not feeling well. It was ice cream and a candy bar that did me in

    • So sorry to hear about the nosebleed and the high bs, Dan. I am doing well. Was having insomnia, but finally managed to get some sleep. I will be by in a bit for a read šŸ˜€ Rest dear!

      • Thanks Lori glad you got sleep when we don’t get enough sleep its bad.

      • Yeah, it really is bad… my back forced me into bed and thankfully my feet didn’t burn and keep me awake.. so sleep finally happened šŸ˜€

  16. Sup Lori I decided to do a fan fiction of ‘Halloween’ John Carpenters next with my friend Rita B being Jamie Lee’s part I think with my creativity I could make it a classic done in a different way.

    • Oh wow, Dan! That sounds really great! Will you be posting this on your blog as well?

      • Yea deff I need your thoughts. I am very creative so this won’t be the same thing as the movie. I will try to go in my own direction with it. What do you think is best try to stay closer to original or have it be a lot different.

      • I think a different direction would be more interesting

      • The first chapter was awesome this seems like something that will come out very organically.

  17. what a cool name! I would love to come back and visit your blog when I have more time on my hands.

    • Thank you! Yes, please stop by again when you have the time šŸ™‚ You are always welcomed here šŸ™‚

  18. I finished the fight between Freddy vs Jason vs Myers. Now it’s time for a Vincent Price monologue! Yaay!

  19. Lori it was too bad that friend I sent the two books to turned out to be rude. She told me not to feel the need to send anymore and told me take a grammar class she thinks it will help me. I didn’t like her saying that after the money and time I put into make her those books and send them.

    • Oh that is such a shame, Dan.. some people can be so cruel. I am sorry that she didn’t accept the gifts in the spirit that they were given to her šŸ˜¦

      • Thanks Lori it hurts bad but I can get along without her. It’s her problem. I wrote her back and told her ‘My grammar is fine thanks for the suggestion so glad to hear you appreciated my books. I had to say something.

      • Indeed, you can do better without that kind of negativity. I am glad it hasn’t affected your writing šŸ™‚

      • Yea insert Gina into Sammi’s role and Sammi is forgotten easily. Gina has a great personality very nice person. I think this book is great just keeps extending time til what the readers want you got to make them wait a little for the ultimate showdown.

      • True.. the best part of a story is the anticipated climax šŸ˜€

      • I wrote a new chapter today. I posted a new post with the chapters from 1-20 so you will need to click on that to scroll down to read the next chapter. Easier if it is all in front of you!

      • oh cool.. thanks, Dan šŸ™‚ will check it out

      • cool do you like Roger Moore Bond movies? I put them on to relax!

  21. Great blog! My blog is http://www.curleymania.wordpress.com. You maybe interested in reading one of the fan fiction books I am writing. I was disappointed we never got a Freddy vs Jason 2. I started writing a ‘Freddy vs Jason 2’ fan fiction book. In this one Michael Myers enters the book along with the characters of Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Donald Pleasence. It’s been a lot of fun and I focus on giving fans what they want in lots of monster fighting but also development with the kids stories and development with the four horror heroes. If you want to check it out you can read it at my blog I am 15 chapters through. I am Dan nice meeting you!

    • Oh wow, Dan! That sounds fascinating and with some of my favorite horror actors… I will definitely stop by and begin reading it. Thanks for stopping by my little spot šŸ™‚

      • Thanks for reading. I can’t wait to finish it. This will be a book I can look back and be proud I wrote dedicated to the great horror actors and horror characters that entertained me for my entire life. Enjoy!

      • My pleasure šŸ™‚ yes, it will be something for you to be proud of šŸ™‚

      • I will be sure to make time to read and comment on your work. I am just the type of writer who wants to write all day and night. I don’t read hardly enough.

      • If you have the time, Dan… no worries here if you don’t. As a writer, I completely understand šŸ™‚

      • I am checking out some of your work right now. I will leave comments! I got time left before horror movie time!

      • cool.. enjoy my work and your horror movie time šŸ˜€

      • I love your work Lori and your website is very well organized. Lots of great writing to enjoy!

  22. What an amazing site ! I love your sense of humor. Thanks so much for stopping by the Cow Pasture and welcome to the fence jumpers.

    • Thank you, Sheila… and it was my pleasure stopping by the Cow Pasture.. when I saw the name of your blog I was fascinated. We have a local river here called The Cow Pasture River.. so it immediately struck my attention šŸ™‚

  23. Thanks for the follow. Looking forward to the A-Z challenge this April. See you there!

  24. Thanks for the follow. My prompts occur on Saturdays. I’ve been part of a photo prompt 100 word challenge for a while, but have recently tried to write them all into one continuous story. It’s quite the challenge, especially not knowing what the photos will be from week to week. I’m looking forward to reading your writing šŸ™‚

    • Oh wow… I love those continuous stories. I will have to backtrack and read yours to catch up šŸ™‚ And you are welcome for the follow, I look forward to reading your work too šŸ™‚

  25. Great bio! I just love your blog!

  26. Thanks so much for the follow, Lori. I look forward to getting to know you. šŸ™‚
