The Little White Lie – #Drabble
for Write on Wednesday – Prompt: Lie
The Little White Lie
It was just a little white lie. I’d never told one before, but this time, well… it just felt right. No matter how many times I’ve been told that lying is a sin, I just couldn’t tell him the truth. It would break my heart.
“Of course Tuttles is in Heaven,” I told my little brother as he sat holding the shoe box with his pet turtle tucked inside. “We will give him a proper burial.”
I don’t care if the other kids say there is no Heaven for pets. Is it a lie if you believe it’s the truth?

If you believe it to be true, how can it possibly be a lie? At worse, it is unintended misinformation (the mainstay of politicians everywhere, except theirs isn’t always unintended…).
If you don’t believe it to be true, but say it because you know that the truth, or what you believe to be the truth, would be too painful to hear at the time, then a deviation from absolute truth is excusable. What parent is going to tell his/her three-year-old that Santa, fairies etc are not real?
Valid points, Keith 🙂 Thank you!
No, it isn’t. I have read many peoples’ near death experiences and other similar stories. They tell of meeting their pets on the other side 🙂
I believe they are there too, waiting on us 🙂 Thanks for stopping by for a read and a lovely comment 🙂
