366 Days of Writing Prompts – Day 131

May 10, 2016

Language evolves. The meaning of a word can shift over
time as we use it differently — think of “cool,” “heavy,” or
even “literally.” Today, give a word an evolutionary push:
give a common word a new meaning, explain it to us, and
use it in the title of your post.

This prompt has given me more worries than I care to mention (let’s just say, sleeping on it didn’t help!). My mind is a total blank. I can invent words all day long, but to take a common word and give it a new meaning, well… I know I’ve done it before, but for the life of me right now I cannot think of a single word to use. And I have no idea why. But I am tired of stressing over it and losing sleep over it. So f’it! I am done with you!

How about you, dear readers? Want to help me out by doing this prompt? Maybe you can enlighten me! Share your ideas in comments.

  1. How about ‘common’ = becoming rare. It seems to me that one of the worst thing we can do to any animal is to call it common (23 examples in the IUCN Red List of endangered species)

    • Oooo! I like that, Keith. I would never have thought to use it in the context. My brain is just mush today *laughs*

What's on your mind? Let me know!
