Mad Libs

Turn to your co-workers, kids, Facebook friends, family —
anyone who’s accessible — and ask them to suggest an article,
an adjective, and a noun. There’s your post title! Now

The Bitchin’ Cowboy

This is what you get when you ask a cynical, yet amusing brother and a dad who watches a lot of westerns. I double checked with my brother on the word ‘bitchin’\bitchen’ (it’s been known to be spelt both ways), whether he meant it as a good thing as in the way they used it in the 60s and 70s or bad thing as in ‘complaining’ – He didn’t care.  I think I will go with the 60s & 70s version.

So who are the best bitchin’ cowboys of all time? You have to say John Wayne. The Duke made more westerns than just about any major actor. He would definitely be my top Bitchin’ Cowboy. Then my next favorite is James Garner. I know some will argue about that, but he was hysterical as a cowboy. And who can forget Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. Dean Martin , Gary Cooper, Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen and James Stuart rank up there pretty high too. And then James Arness , Henry Fonda, Chuck Connors, Jack Palance and Lee Van Cleef. So many great actors tried their hands at Westerns like Alan Ladd, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, William Holden, Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas and Paul Newman – men you were used to seeing as Leading Men in Romantic Comedies. Tom Selleck made a good cowboy and Yul Brynner even did a few westerns (one as a scifi version!). One that I absolutely love is Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday. There are way too many to list and for my brain to even remember.

How about you, dear readers? Who do you think was the top Bitchin’ Cowboy? Share your thoughts with me in comments.
