366 Days of Writing Prompts – Day 104

April 13, 2016

Charitable

You’ve inherited $5 million, with instructions that you must
give it all away — but you can choose any organizations you
like to be the beneficiaries. Where does the money go?

I know I’ve played this what-if game before, but darn if I can find it. So I guess I will play along again. (Why do these money questions keep coming up? Is the universe trying to tell me something? hmmmm)

$1 million would go to the Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation to help support Buddhist monks and nuns, and to help spread peace and mindflness around the world.

$1 million would go to Futures Without Violence to help support women and children who’ve been victims of Domestic Violence

$1 million would go to NAMI Virginia to help those who live in Virginia with Mental Illness

$500,000 would go to my local Arts center

$500, 000 would go to my local library

$500,000 would go to my local ASPCA

$500,000 would go to local Food Banks

How about you, dear readers? What charities would receive your $5 million? Share your thoughts with me in comments.

  1. I would want to ensure that the money would truly go to the people and not to administrative costs and management. I would want to see the money managed in a way that it generates ongoing funds through good, solid investments with the whole amount used to set up a business model where unemployed youth, the homeless and disadvantaged, disenfranchised could come and work, learn skills that will lead to employment opportunities and create sustainable life changes.

    • Beautiful, Raili 🙂 I guess you would have to set that up yourself.. too many charity organizations miss-use funds. The ones I chose have low administration costs…

      • Yes, I probably would. Too much gets wasted and doesn’t get to where it’s meant to go.

      • Yep… what pisses me off is all of these foundations that give away t-shirts, hats, bags, etc if you donate and they cost more than what some people even donate.. and such a waste of money..but I guess it’s because people always want something in return.. not me.. just take the money and keep the small gifts and use the money for real change! ya know? *sighs*

      • Yeah, I do 🙂

  2. 2M will go to homeless shelters
1M will go to food banks
500,000 M will go to animal shelters
1.5 M will go to deserving students as scholarship

What's on your mind? Let me know!
