Seriously? – #poetry #aprpad

April 12, 2016

Prompt: Two for Tuesday – write a serious poem or a silly poem

Your words echo…
“you are too serious
let loose, be silly!”

but you know nothing
of my dark soul
or the burdens I bear

these bones have known
more cracks and wear
than a busy sidewalk

this mind has ripped
from seam to seam
more than torn cloth

these hands have wielded
sharp razors and knives
more than thieves

I have worn masks
to protect those I love
from my misshapen face

buried myself in dungeons
to keep you safe
from my maniacal growl

And now you tire of me
and my serious nature
ask me to be silly?

Maybe you should remove
your rose-colored glasses
and see the real world

then ask me again to smile

  1. I have worn masks
    to protect those I love
    from my misshapen face…

That made me sad. I can identify with it. I sense your frustration in this poem. I was good.
