Distant Love #poetry #aprpad

April 4, 2016

Prompt: write a distance poem

Distant Love

I keep my distance
not wishing to get too close
there are stains upon my soul
black blotches of ink
where my pain is written

decades of abandonment
overshadow love
ebony tears stream
where joy should be
puddles like muck at my feet

this isn’t the life
I wish for you
to be with one so wholly lost
a world void of sunshine
shrouded in gloom

if I held you
even for a moment
kissed your precious lips
I would erupt
bury you in my darkness
