366 Days of Writing Prompts – Day 93
Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a child.
What became of it?
I was about 8 years old I believe. It was Christmas time and my dad was laid off at work due to a union strike. Times were hard enough back then and we didn’t think we would have a Christmas at all. Then the Salvation Army stepped in. They brought all three of us kids toys and a full course meal for the family. My toy was a brown stuffed bear. I named him Cocoa.
Cocoa slept with me, wandered about with me, and even went to school with me in my book bag over the course of several years. That was until he became so worn that his fur had fallen out, one of his eyes was missing and he’d even lost some stuffing. He sat on my bed all the time after that. I know I still had him when we moved to our new house on my 10th birthday. I remember unpacking him. However, I don’t remember what happened to him in the proceeding years. I guess he got replaced with other stuffies and I became a bookworm, so books became my prized possessions. He probably got thrown away, either by my mother or myself. I don’t recall really. I just remember what a comfort he was during my younger years when I had so few friends and didn’t get along well with my siblings.
How about you, dear readers? What was your childhood prized possession? Share your thoughts with me in comments.
