Saved

Depression ate away at me. I got into my car and just drove. I didn’t care where or how fast. My life had no meaning. No job. No wife. No kids. All stripped away. I stared at lamp posts. Trees. The bridge. It would be so easy.

A blinding light came toward me. It was now or never. I pushed down on the accelerator. Watched the speed climb to 50, 60… 75. The light blinded me. I shut my eyes. A wave of calm washed over me. Within me. I opened my eyes expecting to see the crash. The light was gone. Saved.

  1. It just wasn’t his decision to make, not his time to go…must stay and finish his life, whatever that entails! I guess he will find out. Great story. 🙂

  2. That wave of calm Lori I know. I was once on a plane that was making a precarious landing and I felt that way as I realised there wasn’t anything I could do about what might happen. Obviously we landed safely but that feeling has stayed with me……great little write my friend…enjoy your Easter…

    • Thank you, Michael.. wow, what an experience you had. I’ve felt that calm before too, but not for such reasons.. I am all ready for the Easter Bunny.. left him carrots 😀

      • Well you’ll be pleased to know I saw him this morning when I was out walking. he hurried by apologising for not having the time to stop and chat…said something about having to get across the Pacific to deliver to a lady called…..hmmm Lori someone I’m sure he said……have a good one….

      • Yay! Thank you, Michael 😀 *happydance*

      • Let me know if I was right Lori, I imagine there is more than one Lori in the USA?

      • hahahaha.. I went to the bathroom and when I returned, there was chocolate on my desk! He made it!

      • Ahh there you go Lori, it was you he was talking about….how good is that…now eat it slowly, it has to last all day…..

      • *laughs* It is still sitting there, staring at me.. It is my reward for getting so much work done today… about to slowly indulge

      • Ahh good girl, slow indulgence is the way to go, savour every mouthful.

  3. It would be interesting to know just how he was saved, you know, was a move to another place or time. Interesting idea. Really enjoyed the writing 🙂

  4. I really enjoyed the story especially the ending. It kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happened next. Well done. 🙂

  5. Awesome! I think the ending was hopeful. The crash didn’t happen. Great story.

  6. Thank goodness he didn’t have a crash and was saved. Maybe that is the universe trying to tell him something! Great story!

  7. I’m undecided as to whether the crash was avoided or there was a crash and this is the person drifting away 🙂
