365 Days of Writing Prompts: Day 54

February 23, 2016

Write about what you did last weekend as though you’re a
music critic reviewing a new album.

The album is titled Restless Nights and consists of 5 theatrical tracks, each running within the 10-15 minute range. It is a mixture of Blues, Jazz, Alternative and Metal-inspired pieces.

Track #1 – a sleepy Blues song titled These Restless Feet Blues is mournful, guilt-ridden and somber. A throw-back to early Blues tunes about hard labor and misfortune.

Track #2 – a smooth Jazz song with a saxophone solo titled Love in the Mist is a reminder of long walks in the rain with romance in full bloom. The song is mellow, relaxed and the sax solo is reminiscent of  Kenny G. and David Sanborn .

Track #3 – a dark Alternative song titled Death Becomes Me is disturbing and raw, filled with bouts of screams and whimpering cries. A mixture of rap and vocals, this song combines the styles of Linkin Park and Eminem.

Track #4 – a guitar-infused Gothic Metal song titled Vampire Lover is sensual, erotic and the guitar rips tingles up your spine. The deep vocals and operatic sequences are a reminder of Type O Negative and Within Temptation.

Track #5 – a forceful Metal song titled Restless Nights, which is also the album’s title, is shocking with a sense of impending doom. The lead singer’s vocals capture the essence of Disturbed and Metallica.

(Since I am not a music critic and have no idea what I am doing, this is the best I could come up with… definitely one of the harder prompts so far.)

  1. Good job with detail!! Sounds like you you had some musical event in your home! I think prompts like this get us out of our comfort zone really makes it a good experience all around. Dabbled in something new…good thing! I am no expert either but you explained the tunes well!

    Love and hugs, Annette

    • Thanks, Annette.. that was a difficult prompt, but yes, it took me out of my comfort zone… those types of songs are what are on my playlist when I write 🙂
      Much love and hugs, Lori

This sounds like it would be a really interesting album (I have no idea how a critic would go about this, either, but it seems like a good guess).

What's on your mind? Let me know!
