#SoCS Feb. 20/16 – Doubled-Over #poetry
for Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Prompt: “contraction”
Doubled-Over
I’m bent in pain, doubled-over
a heart-ache so severe
the agony, the agony
of a love gone so wrong
you promised sunshine days
and moon-lit nights
I didn’t expect walks in the park
but nothing prepared me for this
your contradictions fierce
your demands unbearable
your tirades frightening
your fists unrelenting
these years of abuse
both mental and physical
have shattered me
even my bones have crumbled
I tripped-up, stumbled
crushed these rosy-glasses
these contractions will never end
dare I stay? I mustn’t

“Powerful description of abusive relationships — I mustn’t is so strong,” she exclaimed.
Thank you 🙂 I wasn’t sure the ending would work, glad to know it did 🙂
Actions speak louder than words, don’t they?
Indeed they do, Freya 🙂
