365 Days of Writing Prompts: Day 31

January 31, 2016

Remember yesterday, when your home was on fire and you
got to save five items? That means you left a lot of stuff
behind. What are the things you wish you could have taken,
but had to leave behind?

Since my downsize, there aren’t a lot of things left that I wish I could have taken, but here are a few:

  • My poetry books – I have around 100 books of poetry from various poets that I really love. Although I could replace them all, it would be expensive.
  • My Stephen King collection – again, easily replaceable, but expensive
  • The House of Breath by William Goyen – I need a new copy anyway. This one is well-read and well-worn.
  • My CD collection – this would be expensive to replace and some of the Prince CDs are one of a kind collectors.
  • My DVD collection – all replaceable, but it would again be expensive
  • My long leather coat and leather snow boots – they are both old and I doubt I could replace them with exact duplicates
  • My pillows and comforter – it took me months to find the right pillows as my head is very picky and the comforter that I have seems to be a one of a kind as I’ve not been able to find another like it anywhere.
  • My tarot decks – I have a huge collection and it would be expensive to replace
  • My tea stash – I buy a lot of tea, lots of varieties, some were one of a kind collectors editions (yes, these do exist in the world of tea!). They would be expensive to replace and some not at all.
  • My personal diaries, journals, sketch pads, and art supplies
  • A painting from a former boyfriend
  • The few precious photos of friends and family

It is all about words. Your words are enough to shatter someone's heart. Your words are enough to make a broken heart unbroken. Words have the power to change your life perspectives.
