365 Days of Writing Prompts: Day 28

January 28, 2016

Ode to a playground

A place from your past or childhood, one that you’re fond of,
is destroyed. Write it a memorial.

Ode to Lakeside

O to hear once more
the exciting shrills
the whirls and rattles
to partaking of cotton candy
hot dogs and slushies

O how you held me
tightly against metal
entombed me in plastic
while the world whizzed by
and cares escaped me

Not just an amusement park
but a place of excitement
far from the reaches
of my irksome life
and the screeching of mother

Summer has never been the same
and never will again
