Effortless means without physical or mental exertion, easy, undemanding, unchallenging, simple, painless.

10 Ways To Have an Effortless Day

I think everyone deserves at least one effortless day. Here are some ways to do just that.

  1. Begin your day with a few simple, easy, painless stretches. This could be light yoga, light pilates, or even some qigong. Slow motions will loosen your joints and make getting about effortless.
  2. Read for pleasure. Chose a book that will not make you stop and think every 5 seconds.
  3. Coloring – not only is it effortless, but it will also reduce stress. Yes, this means even you adults!
  4. Plan your meals and do most of the prep the day before so on your effortless day, you can cook simple meals and eat without much effort.
  5. Be present. Stay in the moment. Do not dwell on yesterday or tomorrow. For one single day, just be here and now. All day.
  6. Unplug – turn off the tv, the computer, your cellphone, and any other electrical devices which will force you to think, react, and/or interact. Take a mental day off.
  7. Listen to some classical music. Remarkably, you can have classical music playing in the background and read or color without being distracted. The music just blends in.
  8. Take a soothing bath or a long shower. Do not think. Just enjoy the water on your skin.
  9. Breathe – do a breathing meditation for 10 minutes. Just sit motionless and breathe. Do not try to think or count your breaths. This is called Zazen.
  10. Drink a cup of chamomile tea before bed and then allow its soothing effects to lull you into a blissful sleep.

    • Excellent, Deb 🙂 yeah, the unplug one is the hardest.. but even if you just unplug a little each day, it can help 🙂 Cheers!

  2. Where are my crayons… I alternate doing these but I want to try doing it all in one day. I’m long over due for an effortless day.

    • I try to do this once a month… sometimes I make it through the whole list and then other days the unplug gets me. Half the fun is in trying though 🙂 Good luck!
