April PAD Challenge — Day Twelve

April 12, 2015

Prompt: Write a “damage” poem

Damaged Beyond Repair

All those years with you
taught me a few things:
a mind can only hold
so many demented secrets
before it cracks; suicide
would have been an easy escape
for me, but for you too

Now you have to live
knowing all I know about you
all your twisted fantasies
your pedophile tendencies
the way you crave the young:
innocent little girls
barely old enough to bleed

You tried to trap me
in your sick pathetic world
bound me up like a play thing
kept me isolated, alone–
you even tried to convince me
that if I just gave in
bore you a daughter

my troubles would end
but I would rather end me first–
imagine your surprise
when cancer stole away
your prize–no children, ever–
since they ripped out my womb
you’ve never touched me again

I concede that I am damaged
but you were damaged first
