April PAD Challenge — Day Eight

April 8, 2015

Prompt: Write a “dare” poem

A Warning Dare

Go ahead
raise your first
crack my skull
one more time
like the last
and the one before that
and before that

yes
they showed up
on the MRI
lesions on the brain
but you don’t care
what the doctors say
I’m already crazy
what’s one more head trauma?

Go ahead
kick me, punch me
crack my ribs
bruise me to the bone
I’ve been your punching bag
for years and years
what’s one more scar?

yes
that fat lip
caused quite a stare
and the black eye
of course
they all believed
I fell down the stairs

What’s that?
oh this…
just a little gun
c’mon hit me
what’s the matter?
I dare you
I double dog dare you!
