April PAD Challenge — Day Five

April 5, 2015

Prompt: Write a “vegetable” poem

Ode to Brussel Sprouts

When I was young
Mother knew
I would only eat you
if she called you
baby cabbages

Once I bought
a while stem of you
I marveled
at your symmetry
clinging two by two

I learned to love you
braised with garlic
slathered with butter
and a dash of sea salt

Your vibrant leaves
and compact head
remind me
that eating vegetables
is good for the brain

O Brussel Sprouts
baby cabbages of my youth
I devour you

  1. Fun! Great Day 5 post. By the way, I noticed that you’re taking on 3 challenges this month. Good on you!

    • Yeah, I love doing the poetry challenges in April and decided this year to do the A2z also. I always do a 30 day challenge in April anyway, so I figured I would just add it as well. I get bored so easily and these three challenges are definitely keeping me from getting bored. Thanks for reading me!
