Worth the While

Prompt: Worthwhile

Worth the While

You were worth it once
to climb the stairs of your ego
to settle into the stone bed
of your demented mind–
Your brilliance fractured
every stain-glass window
that dared to radiate light–

You were worth it once
to brave your thunderclaps
to bear the rain
bursting down upon my backbone–
Your floods carved
avenues of shame
I would never have taken on my own–

You were worth it once
to stumble along your rocky shore
to tumble head-first
into your jagged fist–
Your rockslides crashed
upon my brittle bones
breaching fragile levees–

Yes, you were worth it once
to give to you so freely
erasing all of me
