JusJoJan Day Seven — On Reading and Warmth

January 7, 2015

JusJoJan2015

I didn’t jot for a couple of days because, well, I didn’t really have anything to say (or write). I did finish The Handmaid’s Tale and while I enjoyed the book, I was a bit disappointed in the ending.. or perhaps it was that I was left unsatisfied, not necessarily disappointed. I will always wonder…

I am currently reading two books: The Strange Case of Dr Jeykll and Mr Hyde which I was supposed to have read last month for my online book club, and After Dachau, just because… well, I like the cover, and I am sure that when I saved it on my Kindle that I had a reason for wanting to read it… so for now, it is just “because.” Maybe I will have good things to say about it later on.

The cold wave has finally made it to Virginia. It’s supposed to be down in single digits tonight. Although I love cooler weather, I am never prepared for harsh, cold weather. I always seem to be cold in winter, especially since getting neuropathy in my feet from the chemo a few years back. Getting and staying warm seems to be a moment to moment challenge for me. I just keep reminding myself.. eat hot spicy foods, drink lots of hot tea, sleep with a cap on my head… hold in the heat.

  1. Sorry about the disappointing ending. I guess every book can’t have the ending you like but as I writer I try to give the endings I would want to read. Not one for sad or tragic endings. Yea over here in Boston its like ten below. I hate the cold weather.

    • Thanks, Dan… Yeah, I don’t always write the best endings either I suppose. I am a writer-in-progress 🙂 we had a couple warmish days in VA recently, but lots of rain, so everything is damp. That’s a very chilling temperature there in Boston.. stay warm 🙂

  2. The Handmaid’s Tale is one of my all-time favorites. I’m sorry to read that you were disappointed. I’ve fallen behind on all of my social media these last few weeks, but blankets and books haven’t disappointed me 🙂

    • I guess I just wanted a final resolution for Offred… not a constant wondering of what might have been. I did thoroughly enjoy the book though. Some of the finest writing I’ve read in a long time. Glad you have blankets and books! They are my staples at the moment too. Blessings!
