Thoughts on “Sweet as Candy” #amwriting #fiction #writers

June 6, 2014

I am doing a rewrite on Sweet As Candy in third person POV. It was one of the prompts in the May Story A Day Challenge. If you’ve read the story, you will remember that it was written originally in second person POV. Here are some of my thoughts:

1. While writing in 2nd person, I could consistently use the anonymous YOU. Now that I am writing in 3rd person, I am compelled to give the main character a name so not to confuse the readers.

2. I am realizing that I may have to add additional sections to the story to clarify certain areas. The 2nd person edition was only a first draft.

3. My reason for writing this story is fear. I have this horrifying fear that some day I will “disappear” and no one will find me. Being kidnapped has always given me nightmares; and yet, I watch tv shows and movies about the topic. I also realize that I “candy-coated” the ending of my story to reduce the fear. That will have to be changed.

If any of my readers have suggestions, I would love to hear them

  1. In my experience, as a writer and as a reader, the strongest stories are ones in which the author has felt some deep urge to ‘get the story out’. Yours sounds like that, so good luck! SD
