April’s PAD — Day Seven

April 7, 2014

Prompt: write a self-portrait poem

A Self-Portrait

I am purple of body and pink of face
my fingertips are keyboard-worn
and my feet are slippered-numb
I have medusal hair from a chemo trip
eyes of a sky-blue sunset
from insomnia-driven nights
and breasts from my mother’s genes:
singing silos fallen —
There is nothing perfect about me
perhaps only Picasso could do me justice
he would understand how askew I am
and still leave me smiling
